Huawei doesn't build cars: it builds car brands: AITO, LUXEED, STELATO, MAEXTRO

Inside HIMA, the alliance putting a phone giant's tech into five carmakers' vehicles

The most influential newcomer in Chinese cars doesn't make a single one. Huawei's Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA) supplies the intelligent cockpit, the driver-assistance stack, product planning and its enormous retail network, while partner automakers build the vehicles. Five brands now carry it.

The model: tech in, no equity

Huawei takes no ownership stake in its partners and insists it doesn't build cars. It contributes software, smart-driving hardware and showroom space inside Huawei stores; the automaker contributes the factory and the chassis. It's closer to 'Intel Inside' than a joint venture, and it's rewriting how Chinese cars are sold.

AITO × Seres (2021): the breakout

The first and biggest: AITO ('Adding Intelligence to Auto') launched with Seres in December 2021. The M5 arrived first; the range now spans M5 to the flagship M9, with cumulative sales past 800,000. That is the alliance's proof of concept.

LUXEED × Chery (2023): the one Jamaica should watch

LUXEED launched in November 2023 with the S7 electric sedan (with up to 855 km of claimed range), built by Chery. Here's the local relevance: Chery is the parent of Omoda and Jaecoo, sold new in Jamaica by ATL. The company building Huawei's electric sedan is the same group behind the Omoda C5 and Jaecoo J7 on Jamaican roads.

STELATO × BAIC (2024) and MAEXTRO × JAC (2024-25)

STELATO's S9 executive sedan (launched August 2024, from about RMB 309,800) targets the Mercedes EQS class, built by BAIC, a name Jamaican buyers know from the BJ40. MAEXTRO is the ultra-luxury play with JAC: the S800 launched in May 2025 at RMB 708,000 to 1,018,000, aimed squarely at Maybach, with 10,000+ orders inside 67 days.

The bottom line

None of the HIMA brands are sold new in Jamaica yet, but their partners are. If you're weighing an Omoda, Jaecoo or BAIC, the Huawei alliances tell you these groups are building at the industry's tech frontier. As always: warranty, parts and our known-issues data decide the buy, not the halo.

Frequently asked questions

Is Huawei tech in the Omoda or Jaecoo sold in Jamaica?

No. LUXEED is a separate Chery-built brand for the Chinese market. The link is the manufacturer's capability, not shared parts.

What's the fifth brand?

Shangjie, with SAIC. It is the newest addition to the alliance.
