Where the trap bites: three everyday runs

Open the driver's door and look at the sticker on the door jamb or B-pillar. Find the GVWR, sometimes written as gross vehicle weight or maximum permissible mass. Then find the curb, kerb or unladen weight in the owner's manual spec pages, or weigh the vehicle at a truck scale or weighbridge with a full tank. Subtract one from the other. The result is what your specific vehicle, with its specific options, is rated to carry, and it beats any brochure. Remember that anything added after purchase, a crash bar, roof rack, drawer system or big sound system, subtracts from that number before anyone even sits down.
